A Lifetime of Service.

A Commitment That Never Ends.

For his entire career, Tony Exum has answered the call to serve. Whether responding to emergencies as a firefighter, helping families as a legislator, or working alongside community leaders to solve local challenges, his mission has remained the same: put people first.

From Firefighter to State Senator

Before serving in the Colorado Senate, Tony Exum dedicated more than 35 years to the Colorado Springs Fire Department, rising through the ranks to become Battalion Chief. Throughout his career, he responded to emergencies, mentored future firefighters, and helped protect the community he has proudly called home for more than six decades.

Even after he retired from the fire department in 2010, Tony stayed active in his community and found new ways to serve the people around him.

In 2012, voters elected Tony to represent Southeast Colorado Springs in the Colorado House of Representatives. After serving four terms in the House, he was elected to the Colorado Senate in 2022, where he continues working to strengthen communities across Senate District 11.

Service Has Always Come First

Tony believes leadership is about showing up and putting in the work.

As a member of the Colorado Legislature, Tony has worked to champion the issues that matter most to our families—not focusing on building a war chest and rubbing elbows with lobbyists, but standing up for better schools, veterans' services, and quality housing. Tony doesn't value the spotlight—he values service, respect, and fairness.

Those values have guided every chapter of his career and continue to shape the work he does today in the Colorado Senate.

Leadership That Delivers Results

Throughout his time in the legislature, Tony has worked on legislation that makes a real difference in people's everyday lives.

His work has included efforts to:

  • Expand affordable housing opportunities across Colorado.
  • Support public schools and improve educational opportunities.
  • Protect Colorado's water and environment from harmful contaminants.
  • Increase access to mental health services.
  • Strengthen support for military members, veterans, seniors, and first responders.
  • Help working families and small businesses thrive.

His approach is simple: listen first, work together, and focus on practical solutions that improve people's lives.

A Lifetime in Southeast Colorado Springs

Tony has lived in Southeast Colorado Springs for more than 60 years. That lifelong connection gives him a unique understanding of the neighborhoods, schools, businesses, and families that make the community strong.

As a husband, father, grandfather, firefighter, coach, and public servant, he's spent decades building relationships that continue to shape his work today.

Tony currently serves in the Colorado Senate, where he has held leadership roles on committees responsible for issues including local government, housing, transportation, and energy.

Previously, while serving in the Colorado House of Representatives, he chaired the House Transportation & Local Government Committee and served on the House Education Committee, helping shape legislation affecting schools, infrastructure, and communities across Colorado.
